Rummy is a game that requires great concentration, tactics and skill every single time someone acts out their turn. Each decision can, and ultimately will, affect how the game progresses and how it will end.

By training yourself to concentrate for longer periods you will be putting yourself at an advantage over your opponents. Rummy by its very nature is a fast paced game and by being able to focus you will be able to evaluate more accurately where you stand in a particular hand. For example, you may notice your opponent has picked up several hearts in a row so you will be aware he has almost completed his hand.

Ensure you pay close attention to the discarded cards pile as doing so will let you know what cards are still left in the game and which cards you should not expect to receive from your opponents. The other advantage of keeping tabs on the discard pile is you should be able to use the information gathered to narrow the range of hands your opponent holds.

Both you and your opponent have to discard a card to complete your turn. Doing so gives your opponent a clue as to what you are actually holding and what cards you will need to draw to. When discarding it is possible to run a small bluff by say discarding the seven of hearts when you hold the five and six of spades. Doing this may lead your opponent to think you do not need any sevens and your chances of him discarding one will be greater than before.

Just following the three small tips above will put you at a distinct advantage over your online opponents who will more often than not be playing a very straight forward game and not particularly paying attention to the dynamics of the hand.

Meanwhile, Rummy fans looking for a change might want to learn how to play poker as an alternative to their favourite game.
